New-Media Journalism was a great class! I love the fact that our major assignments were tied with blogging. I’ve always wanted to blog, but never took the time to really sit, and just type my thoughts. This class definitely gave me the extra boost that I needed to get going.
I now have two personal blogs, one is all about cheerleading and the other is just random things that I’m into, and how I feel on a daily bases. My cheerleading blog is called "It’s Our World", and I chose this title, simply because cheerleaders live in another world. I wish I could do a census on how many cheerleaders there are in the world. This is becoming a dominant sport, and both boys and girls are involved.
I also made a Tumblr page TUMBLR. I am REALLY into this tumblr thing. I just enjoy communicating with people who share similar interests as me, from all over the world. I would LOVE to be a socialite blogger one day, kind of like Perez Hilton. I think that it'll be cool to be known as someone who makes blogs that the whole world knows about.

SRU Cheerleading host UCA Regionals
I went to the UCA Regionals, hosted by SRU cheerleading, and it was great! Although it was a two day competition, i decided to go to the allstar one. I like the way UCA set it up this year, the floor was on one end of the gym instead of in the center, facing one of the bleachers. I only wish that the judges were on a platform or something.
Anyways, it was chaos, just like any cheerleading competition. Cheerleaders every where, music blasting, people screaming, i love it!
Lets see, who was i impressed with..
Well FCA has an open all girl team, "Onyx" and you know what, they were good! it was their first competition, and i was very impressed!
Buuuttt, idk how i feel about the uniforms. They are really nice, but i dont think that it goes with FCA's look, well, maybe it was the zebra print that threw me off, since FCA are "Gems". Oh well, they still looked good and im very impressed!

After meeting with Chris Cole and getting the scoop from the man who runs the union, i decided to talk to someone from SGA. The idea for the new union was presented by Student Government in 2004, and has been carried through since then. It has taken quite some time for the new union to become reality. If you think about it, it only took about a year to build the new dorms. Along with the dorms, Boozel has been completely remodeled, and other various buildings have been built, but why is it taking so long for the union to be completed? When I met with Chris Cole, he mentioned to me that this was one of SRU's biggest projects since the Arc.
I met with Adam Kennerdell, Vice President of Financial Affairs, and he had a good amount of information to share with me. He mentioned how the students did a referendum vote for the new union, and how the student’s votes were a big factor. Adam seemed very excited about the new union.
"Twice the students voted yes," Kennerdell said. "So that was enough support to get the administrators and President Smith up to it."
Kennerdell mentioned how the new union will have a more openly and friendly environment. It will be more students oriented, and have more of an open flow to it. This was an important requirement that SGA requested the new union have. SGA's current office is almost unnoticeable when you walk into the union, and that is something they are looking to change.
The Arc will also have some new additions to it. Slippery Rock's enrollment of students is climbing year by year. This has also led to future renovations on the Arc. In this video, Kennerdell fills us in on what to expect in the near future.

Director Chris Cole gives me the scoop of what the new union has to offer!
December 6,2010.
I met with Chris Cole, who is the university union director, and he gave me a detailed explanation of about the new union.
The New Union has been a long time in the making, since late 2004. Student Government Association passed a resolution saying that the University should look into building a new union. Since that time, there have been two votes with the student population to approve the project. The idea of the new union has gone to the state system, as well as the board of governors and trustee's of SRU.
"We finally broke ground this last July", says Cole.
Dr.Chris Cole speaks about the new university union project.
The new union has been a project design to meet the needs of current and future students at SRU. The current union was built in 1970, when SRU had a population of about 3000 students, and has not changed at all. The mechanical system of the building has, and its location, has led the university to building a completely new union. The current facilities location and age would put on a limit on renovating it. Students chose in a referendum vote, to build a completely new union instead of renovating the current one.
The New Union gives the campus and its organizations new office spaces. The offices will include a office suite area, for the advisors of the organizations. There will be new more modern meeting spaces for students at SRU.
A great thing the new union will have is a new food court area, which is wonderful! Students get tired of the same ole Rocky's grille. Slippery Rock will be the first college franchise of Quaker Steak and Lube. There will also be a Starbucks!
There will be a new ballroom that can be divided into three separate spaces. It could either be used as the large room, like the MPR or it could be split into three separate rooms. The thing that i was most impressed with is the Movie Theater built in the new union. This will be very convenient for students who don’t have transportation to Butler to see new films.
"A Movie Theater has always been the number one thing,on the wish list for students",Cole.
Everything in the current university union will be moving to the new union, except for the Radio station because of it cant move without paying a large amount of money to the federal communications commission for re-licensing.
Chris Cole's office is located in the upstairs of the union, room 208

Coming in 2012, Slippery Rock University New Student Union.
Over the years, Slippery Rock University has expanded and upgraded tremendously. New dorms, new dinging halls, and new buildings in the quad. It is definitely time for a new and up to date union.
In June 2004, Dr.Robert Watson, Vice President of Student life, urged President Smith that the University begin to explore options for renovation or construction of a new union, in order to comply with the State System Requirement for all student unions to operate auxiliary services. After the pitch for the idea of a new union, the University distributed a survey to all students, requesting opinions and preferences about a new student union.
In October of 2006, a request for proposals was authorized in order to select an architectural firm for the design and construction of a new student union. After a review of proposals and campus presentations, the architectural firms of Sasaki and DRS were selected to complete the student union project.
In March 2008, a new referendum vote on the union project was held. Voting options included, building a new student union, renovation the current union, or leaving the union as it already is. Financial estimates were included that gave an idea of the impact on student fees for each option. With 2242 students voting through a electronic survey, 93% selected the option to build a new student union.
Within those two years, there have been weekly architect meetings with building users to refine all spaces. In July 2010, contracts were signed and contractors moved onto the site to begin the construction. In October, a Ceremony was held for the new Student Union at the construction site, which is adjacent to Boozel Dining Hall.
This link takes you to an overview of the project, and what the new union has to offer .New Union!
The current union is still up and running.
